Definition

Waypoints are points along a route in a routing API. They are specified between origin and destination points and provide additional information for navigating between those points. Waypoints can be used to stop for destinations and attractions along the route or to avoid certain roads. Waypoints can also be used to customize the route and prioritize certain roads (e.g. toll roads, highways).

Use Cases:

1. Navigating city routes: Waypoints can be used to provide a detailed route between two points in a city. It can be used to avoid traffic congestion areas and find the shortest, fastest or most convenient route.

2. Sightseeing: Waypoints can be used to plan route according to attractions. For example, adding a waypoint for a museum allows you to drive past the attraction while also taking into account traffic, construction, and other travel information.

3. Business travel: Business travelers use waypoints to plan time efficient routes when needing to visit multiple clients in a day, again taking into account traffic, construction, and other travel information.
